At One Smile Dental, we want to give our patients all of the tools they need to care for their teeth throughout their lives. In addition to encouraging a good oral hygiene routine that includes brushing, flossing, and biannual visits to our office, we also strive to educate our patients on the importance of their diet when it comes to oral health.

Many of our patients are surprised to learn about the impact their diet can have on their dental health, both good and bad. Today, we’ve come up with a list of 5 foods that can work wonders for your teeth!

  1. Strawberries
  2. These sweet, delicious berries contain malic acid, a substance that naturally whitens teeth. Strawberries also contain vitamin C, a nutrient that helps strengthen your gums.

  3. Cheese
  4. Cheese isn’t only tasty, it’s also a great tool for strengthening teeth. The calcium in cheese helps strengthen both your tooth enamel and your bones.

  5. Leafy Greens
  6. Leafy greens, such as spinach, kale, and broccoli, are known as superfoods for good reason – they are chock full of nutrients, promote good digestion, and even clean your teeth! The high fiber content helps scrub your teeth as you chew.

  7. Nuts
  8. The next time you’re searching for a snack, reach for some nuts. Nuts are high in protein, calcium, and fiber – all of which are beneficial to your teeth and gums.

  9. Sugarless Gum
  10. Okay, this one isn’t quite a food, but it definitely counts as a snack. Sugar-free gum is a great option to both freshen your breath and clean your teeth between meals. The xylitol (a sweetening agent) found in sugarless gum reduces the amount of bad bacteria in your mouth and can help restore a neutral pH.
